This is a list of Course Elements in Super Mario Maker 2 that can be used when creating a level.

Unlocking Course Elements[]

The Super Hammer and Superball Flower power-ups are unlocked by playing through Story Mode.

Game Styles are divided into two categories; the first four game styles are interchangeable and can be swapped at any time, while the extra game styles will reset the level editor due to being incompatible with the others.

Themes[]

Main article: Course Theme

There are 10 different themes available to choose from. Every theme in the four main game styles also has a Day and Night version. The quick day-night switch is unlocked once the Angry Sun is changed into the Moon for the first time, which changes the level to the Night theme. When a Night version is chosen, various effects will take place and some items may even change completely.

Clear Condition[]

Main article: Clear Condition

It is possible to set a clear condition that is required in order to beat a level, with the goal becoming inactive if the condition is not met. Clear Conditions are divided into three categories: actions, parts, and status.

It is not possible to use Checkpoint Flags with clear conditions.

Modifiers[]

  • Timer: The in-game timer ranges from 10–500 seconds and can only be changed by intervals of 10.
  • Custom Scroll: The level can be made to automatically scroll the screen at 3 different speeds. The direction and speed of the autoscroll can be changed in a chosen range.
    • Scroll Stop: Placing a full vertical line of blocks from the bottom to the top of the level will cause the camera to stop scrolling. If one of the blocks is broken the camera will be able to scroll again.
  • Liquids: In the Forest and Castle themes the starting height of the liquid can be freely set. In addition to this, it is also possible to make it raise or raise and then lower at 3 different speeds. However, it is not possible to make the liquid only lower.
  • Sub-area: It is possible to change whether the sub-area is horizontal, or vertical (up to 164 blocks).

Conveyor Belt A conveyor that will move objects forward when they are on it. Its speed can be adjusted, it can be made to change directions when an ON/OFF Block is hit or be placed as a slope.
Donut Block (SMM SMW)
Donut Block A block that will fall if the player stands on it for long enough. Wings Modifier
Gentle Slope (SMM2 SMW)
Gentle Slope A ground block at a 30° angle that players can slide down.
Empty Block (SMM SMW)
Empty Block A block that appears when another block is hit and no longer contains any items.

Music Block (SMM SMW)
Music Block A Note Block with an eight-note on it that will play a musical pitch when jumped. It can also be made to spawn objects. It is created by shaking a Note Block. Wings Modifier
Note Block (SMM SMW)
Note Block A block with a quarter note on it that bounce the player when jumped on. It can also be made to spawn objects. Shaking it will transform it into a Music Block. Wings Modifier

Pipe A pipe that can be made to spawn objects. The speed at which the object spawns is different depending on the color, with Blue, Green, Yellow, Red being in order from slowest to fastest. It can also be turned into a Warp Pipe that is able to take the player between the main and sub-areas.
Rotating Block (SMM SMW)
Rotating Block A block that will start rotating after it is hit and can be destroyed when Spin Jumped on by Super Mario. It can also be made to spawn objects.Note Wings Modifier

Sea Urchin An invincible sea urchin that will damage the player when they touch it. It is the form a spike trap takes when underwater in the SMW theme.

Fast Snake Block A blue platform that moves along a set path when the player lands on it. It is created by selecting the alternate form of the Snake Block.
Fire Bar (SMM SMW)
Fire Bar A block with a rotating rod made of fireballs.
Flimsy Lift (SMM SMW)
Flimsy Lift - Track (SMM SMW)
Flimsy Lift A platform that will fall if Mario lands on it. If it is placed on a track it will not move unless Mario lands on it. It is created by shaking a lift. Wings Modifier
Grinder (SMM SMW)
Grinder A spinning saw blade.
Icicle - Stationary (SMM2 SMW)
Icicle - Falling (SMM2 SMW)
Icicle An ice stalactite that damages the player if they touch it. It can be set to remain stationary, or fall when the player is close enough.
Key (SMM SMW)
Key A collectible key that will let the player unlock Key Doors, or locked Warp Boxes.
Key Door (SMM SMW)
Key Door A locked Warp Door that can only be entered if the player has a key. It is created by shaking a Warp Door.

A platform made of skulls that will start moving when the player lands on it. Shaking it will cause it to change colors.

Mushroom Trampoline A bouncy mushroom platform that allows the player to jump higher.
ON-OFF Switch - On (SMM2 SMW)
ON-OFF Switch - Off (SMM2 SMW)
ON/OFF Switch A block that is used to switch Dotted-Line Blocks from being solid to non-solid or vice-versa. It can also be used to change the path of a track, direction of a Conveyor Belt, or the status of a Spike Block.
One-Way Wall (SMM SMW)
One-Way Wall A gate that only allows the player to travel through it from one direction.
P Block (SMM2 SMW)

P Warp Door (SMM SMW)
P Warp Door A Warp Door that can only be entered if a P Switch is active. It is created by shaking a Warp Door.
P Switch (SMM SMW)
P Switch A switch that will temporarily turn coins into blocks and vice-versa when pressed. It will also activate P Warp Doors and stop Conveyor Belts from moving. Wings Modifier
POW Block (SMM SMW)
POW Block A block that causes an earthquake when activated that will kill all enemies that are onscreen and touching the ground. Wings Modifier
Red POW Block (SMM2 SM3DW)
Red POW Block A POW Block with a more destructive explosion.
Seesaw (SMM2 SMW)
Seesaw - Tracked (SMM2 SMW)
Seesaw A platform that tilts towards one side when the player or another object is on top of it.
Skewer (SMM SMW)
Skewer A spiked pillar that moves up and down.
Snake Block (SMM2 SMW)
Snake Block A green platform that moves along a set path when the player lands on it. Selecting its alternate form will cause it to become a Fast Snake Block.
Swinging Claw (SMM2 SMW)
Swinging Claw A large claw that will catch the player when they jump onto it allowing them to swing back-and-forth. It can also be made to carry enemies that will be dropped when the player is near it.
Track (SMM SMW)
Track A track that various objects can travel on. Shaking a diagonal track will create a curved track. It can also be made to change paths when an ON/OFF Block is hit.

Track Block - Blue (SMM2 SM3DW)
Track Block A block that moves along a set path. It can be made to only start moving when a player lands on it.
Spring (SMM SMW)
Spring - Sideways (SMM SMW)
Trampoline A trampoline that allows Mario to jump higher. Shaking it will cause it to become sideways. Wings Modifier
Tree (SMM2 SM3DW)
Tree A tree that the player is able to climb. It can also be made to spawn items that will be released when the player reaches the top.
Twister (SMM2 SMW)
Twister A tornado capable of blowing the player or other objects upwards.
Vine (SMM SMW)
Vine A vine that the player is able to climb.
Warp Box (SMM2 SM3DW)
Warp Box A magical box that will take the player to another part of the level when entered. Selecting its alternate form will cause it to turn into a Warp Box (With Key).

A locked Warp Box that can only be entered if the player has a key. It is the alternate form of the Warp Box.
