Brick Blocks | |
First Appearance | Super Mario Bros. (1985) |
Brick Blocks are destructible blocks that are affected by P switches and can be destroyed in more ways than other types of destructible blocks. In the Super Mario World game style, Brick Blocks are replaced by Rotating Blocks. Other course elements may be placed inside Brick Blocks, at which point they behave like re-skinned ? Blocks rather than displaying the behavior described in this article.
History[]
Super Mario Maker[]
Brick Blocks can be placed anywhere in the level, as well as being placed on tracks.
Dragging Wings onto a Brick Block will cause the block to fly to the left indefinitely in a wave pattern.
Activating a P Switch will turn any stationary Brick Block (which does not contain an item) into a coin, and vice versa. This does not apply to blocks or coins which have wings or are placed on tracks.
Brick Blocks may be destroyed by hitting them with Mario's head from below, in any transformation other than Small Mario (i.e. Mario must have any power-up). However, Small Mario can still destroy Brick Blocks from below when wearing a Shell Helmet.
Brick Blocks will also be destroyed when hit from the side with any regular-sized shell.
Style-Specific Mechanics[]
In the Super Mario Bros. 3 game style, Brick Blocks may be destroyed by Raccoon Mario with a tail swipe from either side.
In the New Super Mario Bros. U game style, Brick Blocks may be destroyed by ground pounding (or drill spinning with Propeller Mario) them from above.
