An Anti Power-Up Check is a design element in Super Mario Maker that is used to prevent a player from advancing if they have a specific form. This makes it possible to prevent a player from completing a level or section if they collected a certain power-up, and is the opposite of the Power-up Check.

Setups[]

Costume Mario[]

This setup exploits the fact that Costume Mario is unable to wear shellmets.

Shellmet[]

If Mario walks under the first setup while wearing a Buzzy Beetle shellmet the Muncher will be bounced upwards resulting in his path being blocked. Alternatively, if Mario walks underneath the second setup while wearing a Spiny shellmet it will cause the Muncher to die resulting in his path being blocked.

Weird Mario[]

This setup exploits the fact that Weird Mario can jump one block higher than normal. If Weird Mario jumps on the Note Block he will become stuck underneath the spike, meanwhile Super Mario can jump just high enough to collect the Fire Flower without landing on the platform.

Non-Specific Power-ups[]

It is also possible to create a setup that will become impossible if Mario collects any power-up that causes him to grow in size, by making a gap that only Small Mario can fit into. It is important to note that there are many way to possibly bypass this setup if not taken into account.
